Sorry for the delay in posting this update--I have been working with a Latin 3 student in homebound instruction, and I also attended the Classical Association of the Atlantic States last week from Friday through early Sunday a.m. I've brought back lots of interesting material to share!
On Tuesday last, I had asked you to prepare Aen. I up to line 143 or thereabouts. The plan was to cover the verses in the usual fashion, namely, Translation, Analysis and Exegesis; however the spirit of artmaking swept the class away on Thursday and a new canvas is being created. I was impressed at how all students found a particular niche for their contributions: Kyle was reading Harrius Potterius in Latin, Cody figured out (and taught me) how to use the Fiskars shapecutter; Sarah, Tess, Karlyn and Brianna 'went to town' with measurements and all of a new SBHS 'Marauders' Map' (shh, don't tell the third-years...!); Lauren was hard at work on font design, and research of all the subjects that require translating onto SBHS halls; Charley, Kale and the two Erics occupied themselves with Corintho; Emily used all her brains to try to figure out what Mike Marchio has meant last year when they drew out the bracketing for NUGAX (Balderdash) competitions.
On the Deck for Wednesday 14 October 2009: We will take stock of 1. Vesuvius Float Progress and task other sections with tasks for completion; 2. progress on the Advanced Latin MMap; AND I do believe it will be worthwhile to look at more Vergil! We can't get rusty just when the breakthrough is on the horizon!
